A PROGRAM COMMEMORATING THE MARTYRS OF ÇANAKKALE WAS ORGANIZED AT OUR UNIVERSITY

Within the scope of 18 March Martyrs' Remembrance Day and 110th Anniversary of Çanakkale Naval Victory, a program commemorating the martyrs of Çanakkale with the theme “Çanakkale is a Stand” was organized in cooperation with Kayseri University and 1915 Çanakkale War Martyrs and Veterans Relatives Assistance and Solidarity Association.

Held at the 15 July Campus Congress and Culture Center, the program started with a moment of silence, the National Anthem and the recitation of the Holy Quran.

In the opening speech of the program, our Rector Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Karamustafa stated that the great victory won in Çanakkale 110 years ago was the shout of the Turkish Nation's power, existence and rebirth from its ashes when necessary.

Rector Karamustafa said, "The victory won in Çanakkale in 1915 is one of the important turning points for our Turkish Nation. Gallipoli is an epic where the Turkish Nation wrote history. Çanakkale is a struggle for liberation in which our mothers and sisters in Anatolia sent their 15-year-old sons to the front by burning henna. Çanakkale is the name of the great sacrifice of our mothers and grandmothers who sent everything they had at home to the front and knitted socks so that the soldiers would not get cold. Çanakkale is a front where mercy and compassion are shown to the western world and humanity. Therefore, we need to comprehend Çanakkale well. If it were not for the Battle of Gallipoli, the struggle there and our martyrs, we would not be able to live free and independent in this beautiful homeland today. Therefore, we owe a lot to our heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for this homeland in Gallipoli and to the sons of this homeland. In order for the generations after us to live in our strong and great country Turkey until the end of time, we must fight in different fields today, just as we fought in Çanakkale yesterday. We will work hard, we will unite, we will learn. No forgetting, no forgetting, no numbing! Today, we will carry this land, which we inherited from our ancestors, forward with science and technology.

Dear young people, do not stop. When we stop, we lose what we have. Our grandfathers entrusted this homeland to us that day at the front without sandals, in poverty, using the little they had. We, too, will not stand still, we will ensure that the Republic of Turkey moves forward by struggling appropriately in today's conditions."

1915 Çanakkale War Martyrs' and Veterans' Relatives Assistance and Solidarity Association President Rıza Yağar said, "We are the trustees. These brilliant young people will work hard to protect our homeland from all kinds of trouble. As an organization, we have come to this day with our own strength and means, with all kinds of support from institutions and municipalities, and with material and moral contributions. However, the most beautiful thing is the young people we give our hearts to. All of the students in the program you will watch here today are high school students. I believe that you will watch the program with emotion. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the preparation of this program."

After the speeches, folk songs and poems about Çanakkale were performed.

Later, the show performed by the theater team of the 1915 Çanakkale War Martyrs and Veterans Relatives Assistance Solidarity Association moved everyone in the hall.

The event was attended by the Provincial Protocol, members of the Senate of our University, academic and administrative staff, AK Party Provincial Vice President Ahmet Yurtlu and his team, as well as our students and the public. After the plaque presentation, the program ended.
